A4Tech’s Headphone Driver Issues in Windows 7 (HD800, HD200 etc)
I’ve used 2,3 HD800 headphones from A4Tech. The sound and bass is really awesome and its the best bang for the buck in a gaming grade head phone gear market. The Problem with HD800 was its delicate design, nearly all of my HD800 headphones got cracked from the sides and finally went useless.
So on a friend’s suggestion, I went to buy a HD200, The design is pretty slick and it feels rock solid. The bass is also nearly as good as the HD800’s. Well its more durable than HD800 so i like it anyway. I’ve been enjoying it for over 2,3 months now.
But the issue i’ve faced recently is when i upgraded to Windows 7. The Dedicated sound control application for the A4Tech HD200 (Which is the same for HD800 headphones also) isn’t compatible with Windows 7, and you’re warned about this issue when you try to install the drivers/app for the headphone.
I installed the same setup with Vista Compatibility in Windows 7, and after a reboot, i was surprised to see the nice bass and sound again. Without it, the Sound is unbearable with generic Windows 7 drivers for the HD200/HD800.
The issue arises when you try to click and run the HD200/HD800’s Sound Configuration App (The application you get after you install the drivers from A4Tech) from the system tray. The OS hangs up for a while, then, you can move the mouse cursor only, but nothing else responds. Even alt+ctrl+del doesn’t work.
I hope A4Tech release a Windows 7 version of their HD200/HD800 drivers/sound configuration control.
If anybody knows a fix for this PC hanging Problem, please share.

Same problem. Same difficulties. A4Tech: 5 for headphones, 1 for tech support.

What really sucks is that I managed to fix this issue on Win7 RC x64, but then I recently just installed the RTM version and I completely forgot how I did it… Now I’m in the same boat again without a solution, and I’m apparently not as clever as I was back then.

Hah! I got it. However, it wasn’t cleverness that got it solved, just the ability to give up on it. I kept trying to solve it myself for quite a while, until I finally just gave up and let the system hang for about 30 min while I was in the can. When I came out, the program had started and I could set all the option and they would save just fine (except for DSP mode, which still doesn’t work). I would suggest just letting the computer hang for you guys for about that time or longer until it finally starts up. My computer is a high-end one, and the hard drives went crazy when it hanged. I suggest that if you don’t have a good computer, don’t expect it to work in 30 min, and to instead just let it keep trying to start the program overnight while you’re asleep. I suggest you clearly define options and close the program, as opening it again would require another long wait (however, in RC, it eventually managed to open up immediately and responsively after some time, and so I’m not sure how the program operates). It does seem to open faster the more I let it open up all the way. Either way, as long as you never unplug your headphones from that specific USB port (or turn off your computer first, and plug it back into the same port before turning it on), the drivers shouldn’t be an issue and you won’t have to mettle with the settings (unplugging it from the USB port would uninstall the program and drivers for me).

Oh, P.S. Make sure you run the setup.exe from the “VISTA” folder to install the driver, and make sure you run it under Windows Vista (SP2) Compatibility. I haven’t tried XP compatibility with the other setups, but I don’t intend on going through the hassle again.
So, to reiterate:
1. Set setup.exe in the VISTA folder to run under Windows Vista (SP2) compatibility.
2. click on setup.exe in the VISTA folder of the driver download.
3. Let it reboot and let your system boot back.
4. Open the USB 3D 112 Sound Configuration program (expect it to hang for at least 30 min or longer).
5. Once open, set your settings for your headset.
6. Close the program and enjoy your sound (don’t unplug!).

^ I’ll try that in a jiffy, thanks.

Jared suggestion works! Just wait a while to open the headset’s control panel then adjust the settings according to your needs.
BTW, I installed the Vista 32bit version one.

The virtual 7.1 speakers does’nt work, only the dolby thing.

I fixed it without the hanging problem but still no virtual 7.1 speakers… Only the dolby works for now..
When Installing change the compatibility of the setup.exe to windows xp. It’ll work fine even if you open up the program and close it up or unplug the headset. BTW I only tried it on v111 not the v112.

Well, while DSP mode won’t save, you’re able to trick the computer into thinking it is 7.1 surround sound by opening up the playback devices (from right-clicking the sound icon on your taskbar), clicking on the correct speakers (C-Media CM112 Sound Device), clicking on Configure, choosing the 7.1 surround option for audio channels, and click on next, setting the options as you like. With this setup, it’s like if your headsets worked perfectly, spare the DSP mode setting in the software.

I’m hoping that A4Tech comes out with some W7 drivers for all their products – I have mice & keyboards from them (their mice are the BEST!) but I can’t even get the Setupx64.exe to launch under W7 64-bit, no matter what compatibility combination I try
Unfortunately, sales 7 support in the US is limited to one small company (though I know there is another company in Germany that may be of assistance). It’s too bad that A4Tech seems to be dropping off – their products really are very good.

I am glad I bought hu-510, that headphone also doesn’t support win7 officially but the drivers actually work better on it then win xp itself.

Hi, I had the same problem and I did the same as described above, Well I’ll outline here again
.
1. Go to this link and download this driver http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/A4tech-HD-200-HD-800-Headset-Driver-10.shtml
2. Extract it.
3. Go inside this folder and goto vista folder.
4. Chnage compatibility mode of setup.exe to vista service pack 2.
5. Install it and it will ask the system to restart.
6. After restart this might take some time, on my HP dv4t laptop it only took 1 to 2 mins after restart.
7. Go to system tray and enjoy
I am just repeating above mentioned steps but in bulleted form so thanks to them
