Playing DVD movies on your unModded Wii

Nintendo has sold millions of Wii consoles each with a DVD drive of course, but with the DVD movies playback functionality locked. Big N wants to make some more money by selling seperate DVD playback units for the Wii. Well, ‘the scene’ has been workin’ on adding DVD movies playing functionality to your Wii lately, and with the advent of hacked channels, there are now apps to actually play DVD movies on your Wii without any modchip.
The mod takes advantage of the current ‘soft hacks’ and allows you to install a version of mplayer that lets you play DVD movies on your unmodded wii.
The straight forward hack requires you to add Homebrew Channel, you’ll also be needing the Twilight Hack (as it’ll be used to run homebrew apps etc on your unchipped Wii).
Next step is to download the DVD installer package and install the installer.dol file to get a DVD-capable version of mplayer. Mplayer lets you play dvd-audio and movies from your SD cards also, though its still in experimental phase. So, who’s still willing to shell out cash on Ninty’s DVD playing unit for Wii?
